He was the greatest rocker I ever saw. But more than that, him and his band were the greatest people I ever knew – the kinda people that played a 3hr show at a small town playhouse, helped us pack up the gear, drank with us all night and then closed the local bar by playing another 4hrs.

Sometimes when the town woke up they found every pothole on Main Street filled in with a note carved in the blacktop saying, “Thanks for having us – American Bob”

American Bob was the only superstar I knew that was still one of us. I gotta get him to run for president so if you’ve seen him tell him to call me, I still have the same number.

HE’S BACK!!!

VINYL SAID SOMEONE SAW HIM AND SENT HER PROOF BUT THEY WON’T TELL HER WHERE HE IS. PICTURES AND VIDEO BELOW. THEY SAID HE’S BEEN BACK FOR A FEW YEARS AND TOURING BUT HE’S NOT USING HIS NAME.

HE ALSO LEFT A VOICEMAIL MESSAGE ON DAVIDSON’S ANSWERING MACHINE (THE ONE IN THE BARN). YOU CAN LISTEN TO THAT TOO, IT SOUNDS LIKE HE’S BEEN BACK SINCE 2020.

I DON’T CARE ANYMORE IF HE GETS MAD AT ME, HE HAS TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!!

He looks old but it’s definitely him. Vinyl’s contact says this was 2020, after we did the billboards, so I guess it was worth it.
He looks really old and also fat, but it’s him. Davidson looks pretty much the same. Vinyl says as soon as they realized they were being filmed her contact took off. I think Vinyl’s contact is Jorgen but they would have recognized him so maybe not.

He burned most of the stuff he ever made before he left, but I found these and I’m still looking to see if I have more.

I found the cover but the LP was gone.
I’ve had this hanging in the metal shop for years.
I’m pretty sure all of the Davidson’s locations are shut down, I know the original one in the barn definitely is, but maybe some of the others are still open. Best bar in the world.
Found a box of these newer ones in the locker room, still looking for the original 76 union tshirts.
I found this hanging in one of their old gear rooms.

Stories

They used to light bonfires right onstage and hand out free tickets for the fireside seats to the local sanitation crew or fire department.

They used to clean street gutters, replace parking lot light bulbs, wash store front windows. He used to say, “Cause I got the time and the people need a break.”

Sometimes they’d have horseshoe tournaments at their shows. They’d set up the horseshoe pits before they even set up the stage.

Davidson used to give everyone tattoos on the road in the mornings.

If anyone knows where American Bob is it’s Davidson (his real name is Christopher Davidson), or else Leslie Billings, or any Local 76ers who are all probably touring with him. So if you know any of them tell them to call me too.

This is pushing the memory back quite some time, but I’m pretty sure I saw him at the corner of a bar in Millbrae, CA sometime around 06′. Maybe someone can help you trace him from there. Wish I could remember more for ya.

Hey Earl, good to see you’re still at it. I haven’t heard from them in long time, maybe 10 years or so. But I found an old tape of Davidson and Bob doing the Chickenshack stuff. Do you still have the same email?

Wow, Jorgen, really good to hear from you. I didn’t know they ever recorded Chickenshack, is Uncle Blind on the tapes with them? Either way, I still have the same email so send me whatever you got. And I still have the same number too so give me a call this week, I want to hear how you’ve been.

Uncle Blind isn’t on the recordings, it was just Bob and Davidson years later playing them one night and someone said we should turn on the tape recorder. I sent them to your email. I’ll give you a call this weekend, looking forward to catching up.

Hi Earl, I’m a big fan of lost or obscure classic rock songs and bands. I’m always trying to find new music from that era. I’m very curious to hear more of this if you have it. I don’t know if you’ve reached out to radio stations around the country but I started contacting them to find out if they have any of the American Bob albums. I’ll let you know what I find. – Janice.

Hi Janice, thanks for getting in touch. I definitely have more music but I just haven’t been able to find it yet. I know I had their first LP, the one I tried to recreate with my niece on the website. And I also had cassettes. When I find them I’ll put them up here for sure. Though I don’t know how much I’ll be able to tell you, these guys were pretty low key about themselves. All kinds of stories and legends but I never knew what was true and what wasn’t and they didn’t really talk much about their past. Anyway, I look forward to hearing back from you.

Haven’t seen or heard of Bob in years – a bit of a hobo but a damn decent skin – would never see ya stuck on a dark night. Last I heard he was streaking down Skillman with Billy Bell from Ballybay heading for the Brogue -what a guy!!

Based on your last sentence I’m pretty sure I know who this is, though it seems like you want to remain unnamed. You know I’m all about people’s privacy so I’ll let you stick with Theophilus. But it’s good to hear from you. If you do actually have any other information about where they all disappeared to, let me know. Adams, Davidson, Billings, Vinyl, any of them. I also see you started letting Damon hang out with you again over there on the emerald isle. Must be desperate times. Give me a call when you get a chance.

Hey Earl, driving through South Carolina and saw your billboard. Ironically, I was at a bar last week and stumbled across American Bob. He told me he retired and is planning to move to Costa Rica. Admirable for you to search for him, but maybe he’ll change his mind.

I heard he died in a plane crash back in the 70’s. Don’t know if that’s true though cause I thought I saw him at a John Prine concert in Frisco a few years back.

Thanks, Bill. So you knew him well enough to recognize him at the John Prine show? Let us know more if you can, especially the thing about the plane crash because I’m sure that’s not true so I’d like to figure out how that story got started.

Thanks, Dylan. He really was a good soul as you put it. Not perfect and he’d be the first to admit it. But he just got everyone around him to leave all the nonsense aside and put their heads down and go to work every day. And when he wasn’t working he used every minute he could to have fun and help others do the same. None of us knew that much about him but we still couldn’t help getting on board. I like your email address, keep fighting the good fight and thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.

Forced from my home but others have it worse. Can’t help feeling positive and that’s why something clicked like a seatbelt when I checked out the url on the poster (don’t know how it reached the wasteland where I now live). I hope American Bob is real because I’d join him like the circus. There’s a new world coming or maybe it’s the old world that’s coming. This is what’s needed. Keep me posted.
